RN (PRN-Level 1) NICU

Neonatal ICU, Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery, Lactation, and Perinatal Education departments, with 150‑200 deliveries a month, two ORs for cesarean sections, and an average daily census of eight NICU babies, our units are busy, fast‑paced, and offer the opportunity to provide specialty and critical care in a collaborative and supportive environment. We work closely with Children’s Mercy neonatology specialists who staff our NICU and delivery team 24/7, as well as respiratory care and other specialists, to provide the best possible outcomes. SUMMARY Neonatal nursing practice requires integration of specialized knowledge, clinical skills, and professional behaviors. Under the direction of maternal child health leadership, the nurse provides care of ill or preterm neonates and understands the complex newborn disease processes. Care is delivered in the delivery room, newborn nursery, subacute care, and acute care areas. The nurse assesses and manages the neonate, responds appropriately to serious and life‑threatening conditions, makes skilled, knowledgeable assessments, anticipates illness, and minimizes the effects of illness. The nurse contributes to a collaborative support team approach to care, promotes family bonding, and provides education within a developmentally supportive care environment. EXPERIENCE One year of NICU Level III preferred. OTHER Basic Computer Skills. LICENSE/CERT Required: RN (Registered Nurse) State of Missouri, BLS (Basic Life Support) from AHA (American Heart Association), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within six months of hire.
