Crime Scene Investigator

Job Summary The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit is seeking a motivated, team-oriented applicant with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Candidates must have a willingness to learn investigative and evidence-processing procedures. Candidates will be selected based on their qualifications, team compatibility, and an informal interview. Position Overview A Crime Scene Investigator is responsible for processing scenes to identify, document, and recover evidence. They collaborate with detectives and patrol deputies on major cases, including death investigations, traffic fatalities, and search warrants. Duties include managing the chain of custody and testifying in court. Key Responsibilities Scene Processing: Extensively document and process scenes using photography, videography, and detailed sketching, to include using various latent print processing techniques. Evidence Management: Identify, collect, and preserve physical and biological evidence, to include submission of evidence to an accredited lab for further analysis, strictly adhering to legal and departmental standards. Fingerprint Comparative Analysis: Matching an unknown latent print (found at a crime scene) against a known print (from a database or suspect) to establish identity. Collaboration: Partner with patrol deputies, detectives, and outside law enforcement agencies to assist with case reconstruction and investigative inquiries. Reporting & Testimony: Write comprehensive, objective reports and provide expert witness testimony in court. Minimum Qualifications Certified Peace Officer with a minimum of 2 years of patrol experience. Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Penal Code, and Code of Criminal Procedure. Must be able to work in adverse conditions and participate in an on-call rotation to respond to major scenes, working flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to manage their time and prioritize cases. Must attend and successfully complete the National Forensics Academy (NFA) within a two-year period. Must obtain a Certified Crime Scene Investigation (CCSI) certification through the IAI within a two-year period. #J-18808-Ljbffr Galveston County Human Resources
