Important Information about the Morrisville Fire Academy: The Morrisville Fire Academy will run over the course of six months. You will need to pass all courses with a 70 percent or higher to complete the academy. The academy runs Monday-Friday on a 40-hour schedule. Upon completion of the program, you will switch to a 24-hour shift schedule, which would include alternating weekends. You can find an example schedule under the "Careers" tab on the Fire Department page. Attendance is mandatory for the six-month duration of the training program. About the Morrisville Fire Department The Morrisville Rural Fire Company was founded in 1955, first serving out of a tin shed the largely rural farms of Western Wake County. What You'll Do Performs responsible protective service work in fire suppression, emergency medical service and rescue operations. Work is often performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a company officer. Some specific examples include (this is not an exhaustive list and is only for illustration purposes) Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating and salvage work; enters structures, searches for and rescues occupants, conducts ventilation and salvage work. Responds to emergency medical calls and serves as a first responder to render aid and/or assist other emergency medical services personnel. Performs cleanup and overhaul work after fires. Assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment, and cleaning fire station and grounds. Checks, tests and maintains fire hydrants; maintains appropriate maintenance and inspection records. Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes. Responds to vehicle accidents and performs extrication duties as needed. Assists with pre-incident surveys and planning. Assists with conducting residential and commercial fire prevention inspections. Performs home safety inspections and fire hydrant tests. Conducts fire prevention classes for groups, schools and the public. Responds to hazardous materials spills. Inventories equipment, uniforms, and emergency stock, etc. orders cleaning supplies. Installs child safety seats as a public service. Serves as an equipment operator in the absence of the engineer/master firefighter. Performs related tasks as required. The Must Haves (Minimum Qualifications) A valid high school diploma or equivalent (General Education Diploma) A valid driver's license that is in good standing (subject to evaluation of the Town) Must be 18 years or older Must complete an EMT Basic Certification upon completion of the academy to progress with employment as a certified firefighter.
