Diesel Bus Mechanic

Position: DIESEL BUS MECHANIC

Reports to: Supervisor of Transportation

Employment Status: Regular/Full-time

FLSA Status: Exempt

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Essential Functions

Under general supervision, the Fleet Mechanic maintains the vehicles of the fleet.

• Ensure safety of students
• School bus operator

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Receives reports of deficiencies in the vehicles of the fleet
• Repairs mechanical, electrical and appearance defects
• Maintains accurate records of service performed on vehicles
• Maintains a computerized inventory of supplies and equipment
• Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment
• Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas
• Assists in preparing buses for the annual State Highway Patrol inspection, maintaining all buses in a condition fit to meet the inspection requirements and any spot inspections made by the highway patrol
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, recommended, and
• A minimum of three (3) years experience in a mechanics trade position; or
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• A valid State of Ohio commercial driver's license Class B with S/P endorsement and an

acceptable driving record

• Must possess all tools required for area of responsibility
• Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education

may find appropriate

• Subject-specific equipment, e.g., diesel engine diagnostic software and equipment

Additional Working Conditions

• Essential - drive a bus
• Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested
• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
• Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to
• come to school on all scheduled work days except calamity days
• Occasional interaction among unruly children
• Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds, e.g., garage
• materials and supplies
• Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, crouch, kneel and stoop
• Occasional requirement to balance, climb and use color vision
• Occasional requirement to operate school district vehicle
• The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in
• the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
