Senior Principal EO/IR Systems Engineer

Raytheon is a world leader in high‑altitude imaging sensors and develops advanced remote sensing systems for the United States Government and international partners. Our ISR Information and Intelligence Engineering group creates algorithms and software that process, optimize, and produce intelligence from these sensors.

This 1st shift role will be 100% on‑site in Westford, MA and requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the development of airborne EO/IR sensor systems from architecture development through requirements verification and qualification.
• Transform customer needs into system‑level requirements, and work with all engineering functions to decompose and allocate system‑level requirements to sub‑systems and components with full traceability.
• Develop and refine CONOPS and System Architecture using Model‑Based Systems Engineering methods.
• Execute modeling and simulation of system‑level performance under operational conditions.
• Develop and execute integration, system, and flight test plans.
• Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including program office, other engineering disciplines, customers, and suppliers.
• Develop products and implement design changes in accordance with engineering processes.
• Perform Control Account Management duties for scope, cost, and schedule.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship is required; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
• A STEM degree and 10+ years of related work experience.
• Experience in architecture, design, modeling & simulation, and/or testing of electro‑optical/infrared (EO/IR) imaging systems.
• Knowledge of optics and/or focal planes.
• Proficiency in requirements development and management, system design and integration, test plan and procedure development, verification and testing, and data analysis.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance after start.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML), Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and EO/IR sensor modeling and simulation using tools such as Matlab and Cameo Systems Modeler.
• Technical leadership on projects, including development of cost and schedule estimates, risk management, and supplier technical management.
• Experience leading engineering development projects, including design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).

Salary range is $132,400 – $251,600 annually.
