The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a senior software engineer who wants to remain hands-on while providing technical leadership across application development, database design, integrations, and production support.

As our Lead Java Developer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, deployment, and ongoing enhancement of Bytecurve's Dispatch Platform. You will partner closely with product, engineering, and offshore development teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that help transportation organizations operate more effectively.

What You'll Own

Software Development & Architecture

• Design, develop, and enhance Bytecurve's web-based Dispatch Platform
• Build scalable, maintainable applications using Java and modern development frameworks
• Participate in architecture discussions and technical design decisions
• Deliver high-quality, well-tested code that supports long-term platform growth
• Establish and promote development best practices and coding standards

Database Development & Data Management

• Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database functions
• Work with large datasets to support operational reporting and analytics
• Optimize application and database performance
• Support integrations across multiple systems and data sources

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to offshore development resources
• Participate in code reviews and mentor developers on technical best practices
• Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex production issues
• Help improve development processes, quality controls, and delivery standards

Deployment & Operations

• Manage source code through Git-based repositories
• Support application deployments to QA and Production environments
• Assist with software installation, configuration, and integration activities
• Contribute to application reliability, scalability, and supportability

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with product and business stakeholders to understand requirements
• Help develop accurate project estimates and technical approaches
• Collaborate across teams to deliver successful customer outcomes
• Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience
• 5+ years of enterprise web application development experience using Java/J2EE
• 4+ years of experience developing SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures
• Experience working with transactional databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2
• Strong experience with Spring Framework and Eclipse IDE
• Experience developing and consuming Web Services
• Experience with MVC frameworks such as Spring MVC, Struts, or Grails
• Experience with ORM technologies such as Hibernate or MyBatis
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience using Git or similar source control tools
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience leading technical initiatives and collaborating with distributed development teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Angular or other modern front-end frameworks
• Experience working with large datasets and analytics platforms
• Experience developing mobile applications
• Experience within transportation, logistics, fleet management, or dispatching environments
• Experience supporting SaaS or enterprise software applications
