Job Objective Responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering sterile processing education, orientation, and competency programs while leading departmental quality monitoring, compliance auditing, and performance improvement initiatives. Ensures staff competency and adherence to applicable standards and regulations (e.g., AAMI, AORN, ANSI, CDC, and accrediting bodies), supports survey readiness, and partners with leaders to improve outcomes such as quality defects, instrument readiness, documentation accuracy, and workflow reliability. Education & Licensure Required Education: High school diploma, GED or higher level degree. Preferred Education: Associate’s degree in a related field (education, healthcare, business, science). Required Certification and Licensure: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) and Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER); Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within one (1) year of hire. Experience Required: Three (3) years of experience in Sterile Processing. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Collect and trend data to drive continuous improvement. Interpret manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs) and translate them into standard practice. Prioritize fluctuating workloads and time constraints to meet position demands. Speak confidently in front of groups and deliver clear instruction. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and related applications. Deep knowledge across core sterile processing areas: Decontamination, Assembly, Sterilization, and High Level Disinfection (HLD). Familiarity with AAMI standards and best practices for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, packaging, and storage. Skilled in auditing, data collection, and presenting findings in a clear, actionable manner. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Essential Responsibilities Demonstrate compliance with the Code of Conduct and address compliance questions or concerns. Develop and maintain the sterile processing education program for onboarding, annual competencies, and role‑based training (Decontamination, Assembly, Sterilization, Case Cart, HLD as applicable). Design and deliver instruction using multiple formats (hands‑on training, classroom, huddles, content, skills checklists). Conduct competency validation and documentation. Maintain education materials, including standard work, quick‑reference guides, and visual aids. Coordinate the preceptor program, including selection, training, and coaching of preceptors. Provide targeted retraining and remediation based on quality findings. Support new product/equipment implementation with in‑services, super‑user development, and go‑live rounding. Build and maintain the department’s quality program, including routine audits, tracking tools, and reporting cadence. Perform quality, compliance, and competency audits across all sterile processing sites. Track quality metrics and trends (e.g., defects reaching OR, wet loads, missing instruments, peel‑pack errors, documentation misses). Lead or support corrective action plans and process improvements; verify sustained improvement through follow‑up audits. Maintain readiness for surveys and inspections; support standards implementation and documentation control. Collaborate with Infection Prevention, OR leadership, Quality, and Risk on reprocessing concerns. Assist with developing and updating standard work to align with standards and manufacturer IFUs. Foster staff engagement around quality through huddles, feedback loops, and improvement ideas. Ensure training and competency documentation is complete and audit‑ready. Support instrument tracking system accuracy (e.g., tray records, revisions, count sheets, location builds, staff compliance). Maintain controlled education documents and revision history. Partner with leadership to address performance gaps through coaching plans and competency‑based remediation. Provide routine reporting to department leadership (dashboards, scorecards, audit results, training completion). Serve as a resource and SME for sterile processing and related departments, ensuring AAMI/TJC/CMS compliance and interpretation.
