Executive Director

Position Overview The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of Fellowship Housing Opportunities, Inc., reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. This role provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership to advance the organization’s mission and ensure long-term sustainability. The Executive Director oversees all agency operations, leads staff, and represents FHO within the community and broader human services sector. In this capacity, the Executive Director is responsible for setting clear direction and ensuring the organization delivers on its mission consistently, aligning strategy, operations, and resources to support effective service delivery and long-term organizational viability. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Organizational Vision Establish, maintain and execute on distinct organizational priorities in partnership with the Board of Trustees. Translate strategic direction into focused, actionable plans that guide day-to-day operations while aligning with budgetary and strategic goals. Monitor external trends and adapt priorities to ensure continued relevance and future success. Drive data-informed business decisions. Ensure decisions reflect the organization’s mission, values, and long-term sustainability. Operational Leadership & Consistency Oversee program administration, ensuring operational efficiency and consistent service delivery, program quality and reliability. Strengthen organizational alignment with the integration of current and best practices into its people, processes, and systems. Define and report on metrics that measure the organization’s operational success and its progress towards its strategic goals. Address operational challenges to reinforce business continuity and effectiveness. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Support and lead organizational transitions using comprehensive change management strategies. Partner with board and staff financial leadership to align budgeting and forecasting with organizational priorities and needs. Assure responsible resource allocation and long-term financial health. Monitor financial performance and contribute to decisions that strengthen sustainability through funding diversification. Ensure programs and operations are aligned with priorities and available resources. People Leadership & Organizational Health Lead and support a mission-driven team with clear expectations and accountability. Foster employee growth through proactive talent identification and by implementing structured learning and development initiatives. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and stable work environment to promote staff retention. Strengthen management practices and leadership capability across the organization. Promote a culture grounded in recovery, empowerment, wellness, and hope. Champion ethical practices, transparency, and organizational excellence. Board Partnership & Governance Maintain a strong, transparent relationship with the Board of Trustees. Provide clear insight into organizational performance, risks, and opportunities. Support effective governance while ensuring execution of organizational policies, bylaws, and designated priorities. Community Engagement & Representation Represent FHO within the community and human services sector. Develop, strengthen and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and funders. Advocate for the organization and the individuals it serves at federal, state, and local levels. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Significant leadership experience in a nonprofit, human services, or related environment, typically including 7+ years of progressive responsibility, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or supervisory role. One year of experience working in a health care facility. Equivalent combinations of education and both personal and professional experience will be considered, particularly for candidates with demonstrated success in organizational leadership and operations. Leadership & Professional Skills Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong judgement, integrity, and emotional intelligence. Ability to translate strategy into clear priorities and ensure consistent execution across the organization. Proven ability to strengthen operations and improve performance while maintaining team stability and trust. Strong organizational leadership and management capabilities, with a focus on clarity, accountability, and follow-through. Financial acumen, specifically the knowledge of how to interpret financial statements, and ability to support practical, resource-aligned decision-making. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, Board members, and external stakeholders. Proven ability to navigate complexity and make sound decisions with incomplete information. Models a commitment to enthusiastic and continuous learning while engaging in creation of a positive work environment. Special Requirements Successful completion of background checks, including criminal records, motor vehicle, and credit checks. Valid New Hampshire driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance. Physical & Functional Requirements Ability to perform standard office tasks, including computer and phone use. Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive hand movements. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel between agency locations and attend community meetings.
