Overview

Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, Florida is recruiting a Medical Director of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). This individual will be responsible for the comprehensive operations of the EMU to support the mission of JHACH including education, clinical services, research and other scholarly activities, and advocacy. The EMU Medical Director will lead a team of nurses, EEG techs and APPs, as well as other support staff. Our NAEC Level IV Epilepsy Center provides the full spectrum of epilepsy services, specializing in the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients who have Drug-resistant Epilepsy (DRE).

Reporting to the Chief of Epilepsy, the EMU Medical Director will foster an atmosphere conducive to excellence in faculty, nursing and EEG technologist development; clinical care; education of EEG techs, nursing, residents and fellows, and foster clinical research. The EMU medical director will support the Section‑Chief with continued development of the epilepsy program and by developing and maintaining a wide range of EMU protocols.

Qualifications

Requirements include BC in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology and epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience.

The Neurology department presently has 11 physician members with expertise in epilepsy, neuromuscular, headache, neurocutaneous, neuro-oncology, neuroimmunology and hospital care. As members of the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Institute for Brain Protection Sciences, our team draws upon the expertise of specialists in neurosurgery, neuroimaging, neuro-oncology, neuropsychology and neuropathology. Members of the faculty participate in the education of adult neurology, and pediatrics residents and fellows. In addition to the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Child Neurology Residency Program, a Pediatric Epilepsy Fellowship Program was recently approved by ACGME and is designed to train the next generation of pediatric epileptologists.

Salary is highly market competitive. Candidates are eligible for an academic appointment at JHU School of Medicine with rank commensurate with experience. Education and academic responsibilities for the EMU medical director encompass a broad set of duties including development of a strategy to enhance academic performance, with the goal of increased regional and national stature.
