The Role

The Mechanical Engineering Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the delivery of the mechanical engineering services and technical expertise required to design, specify, manufacture, and test industrial freeze dryers, while meeting project objectives for cost, schedule, quality, and safety.

Primary Responsibilies:

1. Responsible for the mechanical design of the freeze dryer system and in helping to achieve successful project execution.
2. Responsible for supervising the work of the mechanical engineering function as it relates to the mechanical design of freeze drying and associated equipment, including: approval, revision and interpretation of technical specifications on mechanical systems for freeze dryers; definition and estimation of materials required for service and for production; and, offer support of general freeze dryer specification and design for the sales force and management. Ensure that all departmental activity complies with required national, legislative and customer standards.
3. Has mechanical drafters/designer, mechanical engineers, and material specialists reporting directly to him/her. The ME supervisor reports directly to the Engineering Manager. The ME Supervisor will also work closely and collaborate with other department supervisors to develop common department tools used for design, planning and scheduling.
4. Work with Chief Engineers and Project Managers to determine resource needs for successful project execution.
5. Guide, train, and enforce all company policies, including ISO and all Safety and Environmental policies.
6. Determine training needs for the mechanical engineering group and develop a training plan.
7. Prepare and present monthly reports for projects.
8. Schedule resources for successful project execution based on company directives.
9. Lead project design reviews and safety reviews for controlled design.
10. Provide Personal Performance Reviews to direct reports.
11. Responsible along with all employees for always acting in a manner which promotes the health and safety of all personnel in direct and indirect employ, visitors to IMA Life and users of IMA equipment.

Experience & Skills

• Bachelor of Science, in Mechanical Engineering required
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering required
• A minimum of 3 years of management/supervisory experience (Clear people management capabilities should be evident)
• Experience with Autodesk Suite (Inventor and AutoCAD)
• Experience with PLM (Vault preferred), ERP systems (SAP preferred)
• Knowledge of the operating principles and procedures of an international capital equipment manufacturing operation (including purchasing, materials control, engineering, production, project management, testing and quality assurance).
• First-hand experience with customers during the specification, design, construction and testing of technically complex industrial equipment.
• Travel as required. (typically less than 10%)

• Knowledge of the freeze-drying process and/or pharmaceutical applications and the associated plant, control, and legislative parameters (preferred)
• Experience with international and domestic pressure vessel codes (ASME, PED) (preferred)
• Availability to travel domestic and international

Compensation Package

$120,000-135,000
