Senior Medical Labortatory Scientist

Position Overview Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Senior – Northwest Community Hospital. Full‑time. Hours: Monday‑Friday, 3pm‑11:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays. Pay range: $32.60 – $48.90 per hour, based on experience and expertise. Key Responsibilities Perform patient tests using manual and automated laboratory equipment, reagents, and test methodologies. Review patient test results for accuracy and notify appropriate clinical personnel of all critical results. Document notifications per established protocols. Identify abnormal or unusual results and make decisions before releasing results. Conduct quality control per departmental protocols; record QC and take corrective action when necessary. Perform instrument checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting per protocol. Maintain competencies per hospital policy and laboratory procedures. Collaborate with lead/supervisor/manager/director to establish QC program appropriate for specialty; delineate acceptable analytical performance parameters. Schedule and perform QC testing; review results and take corrective action as appropriate. Communicate significant or unresolved issues to supervisor/manager/director for resolution. Maintain documentation on QC materials and reagents. Oversee proficiency testing in specialty area if applicable. Assist in validation of new procedures, methods, and equipment. Promote patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members and patients. Instruct and encourage coworkers to treat patients and customers courteously. Participate in continuing education, in‑services, lab meetings, and committees. Maintain a safe work environment using required PPE and protective devices. Handle biohazardous materials and chemicals per protocols. Manage inventory and supplies within respective departments. Use computer functions efficiently, manage workload and turnaround times. Assist in orientation and training of new employees and students. Assist in competency assessment of moderate and high‑complexity testing. Maintain broad knowledge of all laboratory departments and cross‑train into other areas as needed. Qualifications Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in medical laboratory technology (preferred). ASCP or AMT certification (preferred). Minimum of 2–5 years of clinical laboratory experience in chemistry and hematology departments.
