Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: RN License Certifications: BLS & ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and surgical patients Chest tube management Epidurals Description: The unit has 15 beds with a staff of 22, including RNs and Patient Care Technicians. During the day shift, there are 3-4 RNs, 2 Patient Care Technicians, and 1 Clinical Coordinator present. Night shift staffing consists of 3-4 RNs and 1 Patient Care Technician. Patient ratios are typically 4-5 patients per nurse. The unit is equipped with Cardiac Telemetry and manages various conditions including chest tubes, cardiac drips, post-cardiac catheterization patients, and post-surgical patients. Common procedures performed include post-cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, device placements, groin management, and management of chest tubes. Critical drips, epidurals, and patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) are also part of the care provided. Candidates should possess strong teamwork abilities and effective time management skills due to the high turnover of patients. The ideal candidate will be outgoing and willing to go above and beyond for patients. Floating may occur to ICU and Med-surg units, taking care of PCU-type patients. Weekends and on-call requirements include working every other weekend or four weekend shifts each schedule period.
