Security Officers

Adjacent to the Wayland L. Jenkins Jr. Fine Arts Center Assist the Public Safety department in maintaining a safe campus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Patrol assigned area(s) on foot or in university provided transportation. Notify supervisor and/or authorities of theft, trespassing, fire, or other unusual events, coordinate with other law enforcement agencies as necessary. Identify unsafe conditions on campus and reports/respond as appropriate; emergency situations should be addressed immediately. Make building checks to ensure facilities are secured; closed windows, secure access, and adjust consumables such as lighting and temperatures as appropriate. Lock and unlock offices and buildings as directed. Assist in traffic control; write citations for parking violations. Assist, direct, and answer questions campus of the university community and its guests as needed. Complete Maxient reports in accordance with training and submission requirements. In the event of a violation of university policy or violation of law, security officers must respond accordingly based on training and best practices. Provide a customer service mindset while interacting with Chowan University faculty, staff, students, and its guests. Assist local authorities when requested or directed. Conduct routine facility and emergency equipment inspections as required. Note and report any maintenance/safety issues as discovered. Transport Chowan University members and/or guests as directed, using university provided transportation. Assist with safety concerns as necessitated. Complete all training requirements, to include Mental Health First Aid Training and First Aid/CPR Training and maintain training requirements. All other duties as assigned by supervisor. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to prioritize tasks. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma required. Experience within a security environment preferred. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations. May require walking or standing for long periods. May occasionally exert up to 15 pounds of force. Paycor is Chowan’s online payroll and time card system.
