Maintenance Worker IIThis position is pending final approval.Under general supervision, performs a variety of standard building and facility maintenance, and minor repair duties in buildings, facilities, and adjacent grounds; interacts with and provides standard information to the public. Some duties require the employee to drive a truck or other vehicle to transport personnel and/or equipment. Work assignments will vary depending upon season and projects to which assigned. Performs Maintenance Worker I duties as required. Works on call when scheduled to perform job duties as required.Distinguishing Characteristics:This is the working level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Position is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I class by the responsibility for performing duties with greater independence with general supervision; the variety of tools, equipment, and techniques used; and the variety and complexity of duties performed. Also, at the Maintenance Worker II level, incumbents may act as a job or project leader for staff in the Maintenance Worker I class. May be assigned to assist in providing oversight and direction to volunteers, community service workers, or temporary/seasonal employees as required.Supervision Exercised and Received:Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.Examples of Duties(Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions).Participates in the design, layout and planning of office, public facility, shop, and other remodeling, repair or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities; takes measurements; prepares working drawings and sketches; assists in preparing project specifications.Estimates materials, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for job.Performs skilled and semi-skilled craft work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, electronics, carpentry, security, and related facility systems and components.Inspects boilers, HVAC equipment, plumbing, generators, pumps, motors, and similar mechanical/electrical equipment on a regular basis; troubleshoots problems and repairs as required.Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.Supervises contracts and work of vendors and subcontractors; inspects work and approves payment.Repairs and installs doors and door hardware; changes and keys locks; installs security devices, alarm systems, pneumatic door closures and related hardware; performs semi-skilled rough and finish carpentry work.Inspects and maintains electronic information, communication, and control systems; ensures that sensors, controllers, and transmitters are in proper working condition.Maintains and services a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools; keeps small inventory of frequently used supplies and hardware.Maintains records of work performed and materials used.Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.Performs snow removal and salting of facilities and access ways.Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to activities.Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures worksites from safety hazards as necessary; attends safety meetings.When scheduled and on short notice, returns to work to performs job duties.Performs other duties as assigned.Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.Typical QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.)Knowledge of:Principles, methods, and materials used in a variety of mechanical and electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work.Operation and maintenance of a variety of hand, power and shop tools used in a variety of trade areas.Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.Shop mathematics.Job estimation and planning principles and practices.Basic practices and equipment of the plumbing trade.Basic equipment and practices of the welding trade.Basic practices and equipment of the carpentry trade.Basic record keeping practices.Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.Skill to:Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair to a variety of mechanical, electrical, HVAC and other facility operating systems.Operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment of a variety of mechanical, electrical and facilities maintenance trades.Measure and calculating angles, lengths, and volumes.Design, lay out and prepare sketches for varied construction and maintenance jobs.Estimate necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments.Safely use and maintain hand and power tools related to the work.Maintain accurate records of work performed.Read and interpret manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints.Use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.Contribute effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the workAbility to:Install fixtures, decorations, etc.Effectively organize and manage time.Recognize the need to repair or refurbish fixtures and equipment; andFollow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.Required Certifications and Licenses: Possession of a valid driver's license or alternate means of travel. Ability to pass a Sheriff's Office grade background check. OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training certification within 15 days of date of employment in accordance with NRS 618.983(1).Experience and Training: Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
