Here is a basic job description for a machine shop candidate.
Proven experience as a machinist or machine operator in a machine shop environment.
Experience operating a bridge crane or overhead hoist.
Experience in using manual, semi-automated or CNC machine tools. (lathe, mill, grinder, drill press, bandsaw etc.)
CNC programming knowledge a plus but not required to be a candidate.
Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurements. (micrometer, dial caliper, feeler gage, GO NOGO ring gages, GO NOGO plug gages, etc.)
Able to visually inspect product for defects.
Must have a general understanding of hand tools.
Basic knowledge of the properties of metal and other machinable materials.
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
Math skill to take precise measurements and make calculations.
Physical stamina to stand stationary throughout a shift and occasionally lift 50lbs.
Understanding of health and safety regulations to reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
Be able to effectively communicate in English both verbal and written.
Be able to understand and follow verbal instructions.
