Plant Operations Supervisor

The Plant Operations Supervisor supervises all aspects of plant activities, including manufacturing, quality control, maintenance, logistics, and distribution. This position is responsible for ensuring effective, secure, and top-notch production while enhancing efficiency and profitability. Duties also involve supporting recruitment, hiring, and training efforts; overseeing facility maintenance and upgrades; and guiding annual budget planning and implementation.

Primary Duties:

• Lead and manage daily plant operations.
• Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure product consistency, monitor yields, and pinpoint areas for process enhancements.
• Schedule and regulate production to maintain desired inventory levels and optimize operational effectiveness.
• Supervise the recruitment, orientation, and training of manufacturing staff.
• Track operational costs, identifying opportunities for cost savings without sacrificing quality.
• Promote safety initiatives and nurture a culture of safety with the help of Human Resources, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and standards.
• Maintain a top-tier safety and cleanliness program, including prompt reporting (e.g., incident reports within 1 hour, daily injury-free count, TIR updates).
• Create, oversee, and execute plant manufacturing budgets.
• Evaluate workforce requirements, conduct performance reviews, and provide coaching and guidance to team members.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all functions.
• Identify and address production bottlenecks; allocate resources efficiently to meet operational objectives.
• Eradicate waste and inefficiencies to boost productivity.
• Collaborate with Procurement to enhance supplier relationships and streamline procurement processes.
• Supervise and maintain plant security measures.

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of progressive experience in a key leadership role within a manufacturing facility.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in operations management at a food processing plant.
• Adept at fostering teamwork and collaboration at all levels within the organization. SQF certification and prior experience in food processing at a USDA plant.
• Prior experience in budgeting and expense management, with a basic grasp of financial and accounting practices.
• Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) for data analysis and trend identification.
• Prior experience in implementing best practices and utilizing continuous improvement/lean tools like Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, etc. for driving enhancements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of safety systems and enforcement of safety regulations.
• Demonstrated strong leadership, team-building, and advanced coaching capabilities.
• Ability to motivate and develop employee skills while assessing performance.
• Understanding of manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering principles and applications.
• Strong organizational and planning skills to balance production and maintenance demands.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Adaptable and flexible with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to collaborate with teams and lead decision-making in a team setting.

Education and Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Management, Operations, or related field.

HACCP Certification.

Additional Preferences:

Desired qualifications: Six Sigma, Green Belt, or Black Belt certification, experience with lean manufacturing principles implementation.
