Metrology Junior Engineer

Responsibilities Sabre Systems is recruiting for a Metrology Junior Engineer to support the Metrology Department and the Navy’s Calibration Laboratory at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The purpose of this entry-level position is to support senior engineers in designing, testing and documenting electronic systems and components to ensure that military equipment and measurement systems are accurate and calibrated per standards. This role uses measurement science and techniques to ensure the accuracy and precision of electronic devices, components, and systems. It involves understanding metrology principles and following strict procedures to maintain measurement accuracy within the Navy’s Metrology and Calibration (METCAL) program, which is critical for naval readiness and weapons systems performance. This work is vital for the reliability of tools, from simple instruments to complex systems on ships and aircraft. The selected candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to: Work under the guidance of experienced senior engineers supporting the Navy’s Metrology Department. Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, implement, test, or evaluate physical electronic components and systems. Calibrate instruments, design test equipment, troubleshoot issues, and implement quality assurance processes for products like semiconductors and circuit boards. Testing and validation on electronics components and systems focused on ensuring products meet quality and performance standards. Perform calculations, work with electronics equipment, and contribute to the full lifecycle of hardware development, testing and production. Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other engineering documentation. Analyze measurement data and maintain accurate records of all results and calibrations. Record problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level. Prepare test reports. Support quality control by verifying compliance with Navy’s METCAL standards. Apply methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects, construct experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conduct tests or experiments; develop or implement redesigns as necessary; and record and evaluate data and findings. Qualifications Technical or Scientific BS or BA degree; Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree is required. Experience: 0-3 years. Technical knowledge: Proficiency with electronics, IT systems, and electronics design software is beneficial. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, critical thinking skills. Good communication skills are essential. Hands‑on ability: Candidates must have the dexterity and knowledge to work with tools and components. Security clearance: SECRET. Work location: 100% on‑site at the Navy Calibration Laboratory, NAS Patuxent River, MD. Compensation At Sabre Systems, compensation is based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, and contract-specific requirements; however, final compensation will be determined by individual qualifications and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is $75,000.00 – $85,000.00.
