Job Details Job ID: 35881 Agency: Department of Corrections Location: Springfield, SD Salary: $26.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on experience Pay Grade: I Schedule: Part‑time, ≤ 20 hours per week Closing Date: Open until filled Responsibilities Scan dictation into electronic health record Evaluate radiological orders to determine positioning, test procedures needed, and protective measures necessary for diagnostic testing Operate X‑ray machines (fixed and portable) according to established guidelines Produce high‑quality radiographs that assist medical personnel in diagnosing disease processes Evaluate finished product and equipment according to quality‑control standards Schedule radiological testing necessary to meet needs of offenders and/or tests required Monitor system for logging all diagnostic tests performed by offender name, number, location, and test Prepare digital images for review by radiologist, including preparation of electronic information Clean radiology equipment and provide a sanitary environment for each exam Complete all related paperwork, bookkeeping, and requisitions accurately and in a timely manner Obtain and log necessary quality‑control measures Travel to other facilities within the state as requested Analyze informatics tools to optimize technology access and improve daily operations for clinical services staff Qualifications Applicant must be registered or eligible to register with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist in Radiography Required Competencies Provide direct patient care to offenders in a correctional setting Operate radiological equipment and perform all radiological examinations Read and comprehend the English language Communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing Create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain‑language guidelines with accessibility in mind Have computer proficiency Have excellent interpersonal skills and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team Have knowledge of various types of X‑ray equipment Work independently and as part of a team Be flexible with work schedule and meet work schedule requirements Analyze data and solve problems independentlyMaintain required credentials as applicable to this assignment Preferred Qualifications Experience providing radiologic care in a correctional environment Experience with digital imaging Experience working with an incarcerated population Experience working with a diverse medical population as a radiologic technologist Experience working with various types of X‑ray equipment Conditions of Employment The South Dakota Department of Corrections requires a background investigation, urine drug screen, and the candidate’s ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Individuals selected for the position will have the opportunity to carry Oleoresin Capsicum (OC/pepper spray) if desired. If OC spray is carried, staff must complete a written and practical self‑defense exam and CPR as per AHA guidelines, including hands‑on and written portions. The practical self‑defense exam includes lifting arms above head and kicking as high as own waist, stabilizing another person for a controlled take‑down, using hands, palms, shins, and feet to deliver blows, withstanding impact, rotating body 90°, and repeatedly getting down on knees and up again. Additionally, TB screening is required for all new employees upon hire. The position is exempt from the Civil Service Act and is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
