Early-Stage Project Developer

My client is looking for an Early‑Stage Community‑Scale Developer responsible for originating, and advancing distributed generation and community‑scale renewable energy projects from concept through early development milestones. The core focus is landowner outreach, site control, development hypothesis formation, early‑stage diligence, and interconnection strategy—but the role extends far beyond transactional land acquisition. The right candidate will act as a market maker, shaping project strategy, validating feasibility, and building the foundation for successful late‑stage development and construction. Key Responsibilities Market & Site Origination Identify high‑potential geographies using grid, policy, and land‑use intelligence. Develop project hypotheses that integrate land characteristics, interconnection viability, permitting pathways, and commercial strategy. Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified community‑scale solar and storage opportunities. Landowner Outreach & Relationship Management Conduct proactive outreach to landowners, local stakeholders, and community influencers. Serve as the primary relationship owner through early development, ensuring trust, transparency, and long‑term alignment. Site Control & Proposal Development Negotiate LOIs, lease options, easements, and access agreements. Draft and deliver compelling landowner proposals grounded in market data, comparable transactions, and project economics. Coordinate with legal to refine and execute site control documents. Evaluate environmental constraints, zoning requirements, title issues, and site suitability. Commission and interpret early‑stage studies (e.g., wetlands, geotech, cultural resources). Identify fatal flaws early and refine project hypotheses accordingly. Assess grid hosting capacity, queue dynamics, and substation characteristics. Collaborate with internal interconnection engineers to shape application strategy. Support submission of interconnection requests and track utility engagement. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with engineering, policy, finance, and community engagement teams. Translate early‑stage insights into actionable development plans. Provide market intelligence to leadership to inform portfolio strategy. Qualifications Required Minimum of 3 years in renewable energy development, land acquisition, utility‑scale or DG solar, storage, or related infrastructure Familiarity with GIS tools, hosting capacity maps, and utility queue data. Demonstrated success in landowner‑facing roles with strong negotiation and communication skills. Working knowledge of interconnection processes, site diligence, and local permitting. Ability to synthesize technical, commercial, and regulatory factors into coherent project strategies.
