Supported by more than 30,000 team members, BayCare promotes a forward-thinking philosophy built on trust, dignity, respect, responsibility, and clinical excellence.Role OverviewAs a Neurology Genetic Counselor, you will assess the likelihood of inherited or familial diseases and guide patients and families through understanding genetic conditions, testing options, and implications for care and quality of life. The Genetic Counseling team provides comprehensive risk assessment and genetic testing services for individuals and families who may be affected by hereditary neurological disorders. Through education, counseling, and personalized support, the team helps patients understand genetic risks, interpret test results, and make informed decisions about their healthcare. Working in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other specialists, our genetic counseling professionals play a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care across the BayCare system.Candidates must be located within the Tampa Bay area to support patient appointments, occasional onsite meetings, training activities, and visits to clinician offices throughout the region.Key responsibilities include:Provide genetic counseling and testing where appropriate to individuals with a personal or family history suggestive of hereditary neurological disordersCollect medical and family history from patients and a variety of other sources such as medical recordsInput information into modeling systems to calculate risks for individuals and families.Coordinate genetic testing logistics and troubleshoot when issues ariseReview information with physicians, APPs, and clinical teams to develop treatment plansProvide long-term follow-up for patients as necessaryMaintain patient educational resources and literatureHelp patient and families understand the personal and familial impact of hereditary disease and provide support as they adapt to and cope with informationMaintain templates for clinical documentation used across the practiceAssist with growth of genetics services within the practice and participate in outreach activities in the communityBuild strong collaborative relationships within the practice and community to support patient-centered careHost students for clinical rotations to expand the breadth and depth of knowledge of future genetic counselorsMaintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, finances, and other applicable privacy regulationsRequired EducationMaster's degree in Genetic CounselingPreferred ExperienceOne (1) year of Genetic Counseling experienceNew graduates will be considered and trained accordinglyRequired Licensure / CertificationGenetic Counseling certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)OR Board-certification eligible within six (6) monthsState of Florida Genetic Counseling LicenseWhat We OfferComprehensive Medical, Dental & Vision BenefitsPaid Time OffTuition Assistance401(k) Match plus Annual Employer ContributionWellness programs and community perksBayCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
