Biologist - Mid-level

The OpportunityTetra Tech is looking for full-time, mid-level Biologist based in our Oakland, CA office.Position SummaryThe selected candidate will provide environmental planning, sampling, oversight, and monitoring during wetlands habitat restoration or other construction projects. Specific activities may include:• Planning and leading biological field surveys and performing habitat assessments and evaluating potential project impacts. Preparing biological assessment reports, technical memoranda, and permit materials.• Supporting CEQA and NEPA environmental reviews and applying federal and California regulatory requirements.• Coordinating with agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and local jurisdictions.• Supervising or mentoring junior biologists and field technicians. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:• Possess or have strong desire to learn and implement complex ecological monitoring and reporting techniques and site characterization studies.• Perform field work in uneven terrain or marsh environments.• Direct and implement permit applications and monitoring associated with wetlands restoration and marsh enhancement projects.Required Qualifications (Required)• Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field and 5–10 years of professional experience; OR Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field and 3–8 years of professional experience.• 3 – 10 years of experience• Basic knowledge of biological resources such as bird, plant, and/or wildlife species of California and San Francisco Estuary. • Ability to use field data tablets and GIS instruments.Preferred Qualifications• Ability to identify species a plus.• Knowledge of local plant, and/or wildlife species and their habitat requirements.• Experience with wetland restoration projects.• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training• Strong written and oral communication skills• Experience using computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs is preferred.Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)• This position is primarily office work, however, occasionally (35%) you will need to perform fieldwork within California and the West Coast.Physical Requirements (Required)The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
