RN CVICU

Position Summary RN CVICU – Contract, in‑office in San Luis Obispo, CA. Night shift: 3 x 12s or 4 x 12s; rotating 1900–0730; no blocked schedules. Requires TNCC, ACLS, BLS, NIHSS; experience in Medical ICU/Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU. Call is rare. Responsibilities Responsible for planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients in the critical care setting. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with scope of practice. Applies critical care nursing knowledge to patients with multi‑system failure requiring ventilation, neuro/trauma, respiratory failure, and hemodynamic monitoring. Essential Functions Provide appropriate nursing interventions for stable and emergent patient situations. Medication administration. Intravenous therapy, including blood products. Care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains. Safe use of any medical equipment in the critical care setting. Understand and follow chain of command per policy. Additional Functions Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life‑threatening emergencies in populations served. Verifies alarm settings with monitor technician according to policy. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation. Provides care and management for patients requiring ICP and ventriculostomy monitoring. Proficient in assessment and intervention for changes in neurological symptoms. Provides care and management for patients requiring pulmonary artery monitoring catheters and arterial pressure monitoring catheters. Manages mechanical ventilation and other ventilatory support devices, e.g., CPAP mask, Bi‑PAP mask, High Flow O2 mask. Applies knowledge of multisystem alteration principles and its impact on physiological functions, developmental tasks and mental processing of adults and elder populations. Initiates multidisciplinary, goal‑oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with the healthcare team and provides care based on that plan. Educates patients and/or their families regarding care, using appropriate teaching methods by age, condition, culture, and learning readiness. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient’s response to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently performs unit‑specific safety and quality control checks (shift and 24‑hr MD order checks, VO/TO read‑back, crash cart checks, urine QC, refrigeration logs and out‑date checks). Performs other job‑related duties as assigned. Education & Experience High school/GED or equivalent (required). Associate Degree (A.A. or A.S.) (required). Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred). Passing completion of a Critical Care Nursing course (required). Six months of previous critical care experience (preferred). Licenses & Certifications Current RN license in state of practice (required). Basic Life Support (BLS/HS‑BLS or RQIBLS) certification (required). ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) (required). Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – required within 1 year of hire or transfer into the department (current employees have 2 years to complete). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Healthstream Advanced Cardiac Life Support (HS‑ACLS) or RQI‑ACLS (required). Organizational Requirements All associates must receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable.
