Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy English Language Proficiency Individuals appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapters 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA must be proficient in written and spoken English Pre-placement Physical Per VA Handbook 5019, Part II, Para 4.b., a pre-placement physical evaluation is required This includes an occupational history (statement of health from your medical provider), immunization status and health and tuberculosis screening Education and/or Experience (1) Experience One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level OR, (2) Education Successful completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, with a major field of study in health information management, or a related degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours in health information technology/health information management (e.g., courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health care, and introduction to health records) May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria) Grade Determinations: GS-7 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to work with a team to provide technical guidance, plan, organize, and coordinate activities of release of information to effectively complete job assignments (i.e., distributing workload, monitoring the status and progress of work, monitoring accuracy of work, and ensuring required timelines are met.)
