GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Ice Resurfacer Operator/Site Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Fire and Ice Depot District during assigned shifts, ensuring a safe, clean, welcoming, and efficiently operated facility. This position operates and maintains the ice resurfacing machine to maintain a high-quality ice surface for public skating, programs, and special events. The position provides day-to-day direction and support to part-time staff, assists with customer service, facility operations, safety, opening and closing procedures, and serves as the primary on-site contact during assigned operating hours.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Parks and Programs Coordinator

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Provides day-to-day direction, oversight, and support to part-time Fire & Ice staff, including Ice Rink Attendants and skate instructors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Site Supervision & Daily Operations

• Supervise and support daily operations of the Fire and Ice Depot District during assigned shifts.
• Provide day-to-day direction, assignments, and support to part-time staff.
• Serve as the primary on-site contact during assigned operating hours.
• Perform assigned opening and closing procedures, including facility checks, securing designated areas, and completing required reporting.
• Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and incidents in a professional and timely manner.
• Enforce facility rules and safety protocols.
• Provide excellent customer service to guests and assist with questions or concerns.
• Monitor staff activities during assigned shifts to ensure established City policies, facility procedures, and safety protocols are followed.

Ice Resurfacing & Ice Operations

• Operate the ice resurfacer to maintain a smooth, safe, and high-quality ice surface.
• Monitor ice conditions and adjust resurfacing schedule based on facility use and ice conditions.
• Perform daily inspections and routine operator maintenance of the ice resurfacing equipment, including fueling, blade checks, water levels, and other required checks.
• Report mechanical issues or safety concerns to supervisor promptly.
• Assist with maintaining rink equipment and supplies.
• Ensure proper storage and care of ice maintenance equipment.

Facility Maintenance & Safety

• Oversee and assist with cleanliness of the facility, including trash removal, restroom checks, and general facility upkeep.
• Monitor and assist with snow and ice removal from designated walkways and surrounding facility areas.
• Support special events, rentals, and programming as needed.
• Coordinate with City maintenance staff or approved vendors regarding equipment or facility issues.
• Respond to emergencies in accordance with City procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Previous experience operating an ice resurfacing machine (Zamboni) or similar equipment preferred; training may be provided.
• Ability to remain alert, responsible, and professional in an outdoor, fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including cold temperatures, and able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail and safety.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts. Hours will vary. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers and reach with their hands and arms to operate an ice resurfacing machine and perform other duties. The employee is frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods.
