Therapist Position at NorthStar Behavioral Health

NorthStar Behavioral Health is seeking an organized and professional Therapist to join our team. The Therapist plays a key role in the recovery process by providing individualized, evidence-based therapeutic services that address clients' mental health, substance use, behavioral, and emotional needs. The Therapist works collaboratively with clients and the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement treatment plans, identify barriers to recovery, build healthy coping skills, support relapse prevention, and promote long-term stability and wellness.

What We Require for the Therapist Role:

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) or Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT).

• Current Ohio Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) credential, maintained in good standing throughout employment.
• Eligible to provide services and maintain active status with Ohio Medicaid and all applicable third-party payer and billing entities.

Physical Requirements

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear.
• The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. (The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds).
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry required.
• Ability to pass a criminal background and drug screen.
• Current vaccination for tuberculosis (TB) or willingness to be vaccinated upon hire.
• Duties may involve exposure to individuals experiencing mental health crises, substance use concerns, emotional distress, or behavioral challenges.

Occasional local travel may be required for meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, home visits, or service coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Minimum of (1) year of experience providing assessment, treatment, and care coordination services to individuals with complex co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
2. Experience working with diverse populations and high-acuity behavioral health needs preferred.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Maintain and actively manage all required professional licenses, certifications, and credentials in good standing, ensuring compliance with applicable state licensing board requirements, continuing education standards, ethical guidelines, and agency policies.
• Provide individual, group, and family counseling services to outpatient clients experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders, utilizing evidence-based and person-centered treatment approaches to support recovery, wellness, and goal attainment.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation in the electronic health record, ensuring all service notes, treatment updates, and related clinical records are completed within 48 hours of service delivery and in compliance with agency, regulatory, and payer requirements.
• Conduct comprehensive intake assessments, including psychosocial evaluations, risk assessments, and diagnostic determinations, to identify client needs and establish appropriate levels of care. Develop and coordinate discharge planning services that support continuity of care, successful transitions, and linkage to appropriate community resources and ongoing treatment supports.
• Utilize a whole-person, family-centered approach to treatment by actively engaging family members, caregivers, and other significant supports, as approved by the client, in the assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic process to enhance outcomes, strengthen natural support systems, and promote long-term recovery and wellness.
• Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based treatment models, clinical interventions, and best practices relevant to the populations served, and apply appropriate therapeutic modalities in accordance with professional licensure, scope of practice, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. Participate in ongoing professional development and training to enhance clinical competency and service quality.
• Support clients and families during behavioral health crises while promoting safety, resilience, and continuity of care under the supervision of a manager.
• Attend and actively participate in scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, treatment team meetings, training, and other agency-related functions while demonstrating professional communication at all times.
• Participate as an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, collaborating with internal and external providers to coordinate comprehensive, client-centered care.
• Maintain a minimum productivity standard of 55% utilization rate (UR) through the delivery of high-quality, client-centered behavioral health services.
• Maintain accountability for professional practice by adhering to all applicable ethical standards, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, agency policies and procedures, and federal and state regulations.
• Uphold and model the agency's core values of kindness, honesty, and respect while demonstrating professionalism in all interactions with clients, families, coworkers, community partners, and stakeholders.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the effective operation of the agency, meet organizational needs, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, client-centered services.
