Counselor - Full-time

South Seattle College is looking to hire a Full-Time, Tenure Track Counselor. The position is a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty role beginning Fall quarter 2026. Salary range: $92,481-$109,526. Initial salary placement is generally at Step 11 ($92,481 annually). Use culturally responsive counseling modalities to assist historically and systemically oppressed student populations (neuro‑diverse learners, students of color, first‑generation college students, LGBTQIA, veterans, English language learners, etc.) in navigating obstacles in college. Provide brief crisis response and support for students experiencing a mental health crisis or acute/ongoing emotional concerns, refer to appropriate agencies, and consult with campus employees on crisis management. Assist students with identifying and resolving barriers that affect their educational development and collaborate with other campus offices to facilitate access to services. Offer counseling, intervention, and guidance for students on academic alert, probation, and/or suspension. Provide career counseling to help students identify barriers to decision making, support career exploration, and help integrate career goals into their educational planning process. Administer and interpret assessments and career interest inventories that clarify personality preferences, interests, skills, values, learning styles, and abilities. Offer consultation to staff, faculty, and the campus community regarding how to assist students and address issues impacting student success. Instructional Duties Foster a positive, caring, equitable learning environment rooted in antiracist and anti‑oppressive pedagogy where all students have opportunities to succeed. Teach Human Development Courses such as Orientation to College Success, Stress Management, Career Planning, etc. Participate in ongoing curriculum development, revision, and implementation that incorporates multicultural perspectives and aligns with accessibility requirements. Other Duties Create and deliver workshops/presentations within ethical parameters, educating faculty and staff on supporting students experiencing mental health crises. Conduct outreach activities and workshops on skills such as time and stress management, goal setting, emotional regulation, identity development, and program pathway exploration. Actively participate in college governance and other institutional initiatives (e.g., CARE Team, Strategic Advisory Committee, CIC, etc.). Co‑facilitate South College’s Communication Awareness Referral Education (CARE) Team. Engage in ongoing professional development activities. Collaborate with campus organizations to increase student retention. Use technology to provide students with counseling information and referral programs. Contribute to and support the Counseling mission and goals. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or a related field. Graduate coursework must include counseling theory and practice, testing and measurements, career development counseling theory, multicultural counseling, ethics, and supervised practicum or related coursework aligned with the degree. Eligible for or licensed as a Washington State Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, or other Washington State licensure, or certified as an Agency‑Affiliated Counselor. Two years of full‑time (or equivalent) counseling experience. Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and skills supporting marginalized students’ increased access to learning in counseling and teaching environments. Proven skills in educational, career, personal counseling, group counseling, and consulting with interdisciplinary teams. Experience selecting and interpreting career‑related assessments. Knowledge of assessment and diagnostic tools.
