Safety Systems Specialist

Compensation Type: Hourly Compensation: $23.64 The Safety Systems Specialist proactively assists in planning,implementing, and maintaining the College’s safety systeminfrastructure and safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, andaccident-free work environment. This position assists in designingand maintaining a comprehensive inspection, audit plan, andschedule to ensure compliance with guidelines outlined by thePublic Employees Risk Reduction Program (PERRP), to create a safecampus environment. This position is subject to call-in twenty-four(24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, 365 days a year, and maybe required to work holidays and weekends.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Regulatory Compliance Support Provides support in testing, monitoring, and the inspection oflife and safety systems. This includes: 1) fire alarms, 2)sprinkler systems, 3) fire pumps, 4) Emergency Power Supply Systems(EPSS), 5) eyewash and shower systems, 6) fume hoods, 7) elevators,8) fire system back flow devices, 9) fire extinguishers, 10) AED’s,11) building access/security systems and 12) all other safetysystems and equipment on campus. Under guidance, performs tasks related to authorizing andensuring safe operations where hot work and confined space permitsare required. Performs visual inspections to identify safety issues that area risk to the community and organization. Reports and escalates findings via appropriate channels toleadership Maintains safety management systems outlined by the AuthoritiesHaving Jurisdiction (AHJ) so they meet or exceed fire andregulatory code requirements, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), andaccreditation standards related to occupational safety, asdirected. Provides support in monitoring the campus safety, utilityissues, and provides suggestions for corrective measures to enhancecompliance. Audits documents weekly to identify issues or deficienciesrelated to life safety. Safety Programs Support Assists in minimizing risk associated with constructionprojects as they impact the campus community, monitors projects forsafety violations, and promotes hazard and accident-free campusesby conducting periodic safety inspections. Notifies appropriate individuals of the findings. Monitors compliance in all aspects of site-specific safetyplanning, identifies hazards, implements control measures formaintenance activities, and traffic control techniques to safeguardworkers and those passing through work zones. Administrative As directed, collects and maintains pre-employment records ofnew employee safety training and certifications. Manages all AHJ required training in the following areas: 1)fall protection, 2) forklift operation, 3) hazardous materialspills, 4) chemical spills, 5) hazardous waste removal, and 6)crane and hoist safety. Assists with documenting employee training on the collegeemergency response plan. Maintains complete and accurate records for training, vendorcontracts, certifications, licenses, inspections, and incidentreports. Records and compiles data, updates logs, schedules requiredpreventive maintenance, and maintains confidentiality of sensitiveinformation. Notifies appropriate resources of inspection results andsubmits required work orders to Facilities, as needed Culture of Respect Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Attends all required department meetings and trainings. Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meetstimelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt to the changingneeds of the department as well as federal, state, and local coderequirements. Ensures the college name and image is perceived positively byexternal and internal stakeholders

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
