About The Role Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Agent implements commissioning tasks in a client-facing position. Administers tasks of the commissioning process for building HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and similar systems, from concept design through functional testing of systems to post-occupancy. This position supports highly technical and complex renovation and new construction projects. Location Washington, DV, Northern Virginia, and surrounding areas. Position is primarily to serve the Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and surrounding Maryland area. Occasional regional travel may be needed for project testing. When not testing in the field, this is a work-from-home position if desired, or located in our Dupont Circle or Tysons office if preferred. What You’ll Do Verify that systems are designed, installed, and operate within the basis of design and specified criteria. Review and verify MEP systems design documents, construction submittals, and sequences of operation for conformance. Plan, chair, and document project commissioning meetings. Write detailed system checklists and functional performance operational tests to check each system point, mode, input, and output. Conduct site walks and inspections and create site observation visit reports and document the results. Direct onsite system testing and monitor complex and integrated systems. Track and proactively resolve issues with contractors, engineers, and owners. Create reports and project deliverables with proper grammar and formatting to produce professional documents. For complex projects work under the guidance of senior staff, and for less complex projects lead the commissioning team independently. What You’ll Need Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant building science, plus two years of relevant experience, or 10 years of equivalent work in MEP systems. Knowledge of MEP systems installation and operation is required. Software: Microsoft Word, including detailed formatting; Microsoft Excel, including processing and analyzing large amounts of BAS trend data; network file management; ability to edit PDF documents; ability to create formatted layouts; prior use of commissioning online software preferred. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Skills Certificates and Licenses: Preferred to have passed the FE and be on track for a Professional Engineer (PE). LEED AP and on track for commissioning certification (such as CxA, CCP, or BCxP) preferred. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous customer service; ability to present information using strong technical writing and detailed formatting. Organizational Skills: Strong ability to independently track multiple ongoing tasks and organize large amounts of project files and correspondence. Financial Knowledge: Ability to manage tasks and scope within given budgets. Reasoning: Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex construction documents and building controls operation; address complex project team dynamics; troubleshoot building system operation. Compensation and Benefits Turner & Townsend carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for this position is 115,000 annually and the maximum salary is 130,000 annually. Compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates are also eligible for a discretionary bonus based on Turner & Townsend’s applicable benefit program.
