Social Worker Dept: Teaching & Learning FLSA Status: Exempt Last Revised/Reviewed: 2/1/2011; 3/25/26 Accountability: Principal General Definition of Work Performs difficult professional work appraising and meeting the sociological needs of individual students and to support and assist families, providers and school staff in this area; coordinates attendance and other student services, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Superintendent. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Essential Functions Transports students and parents to and from school and appointments for various services. Facilitates parent-teacher-student contacts, consultations and general relater and to support the students sociological needs. Attends eligibility meetings for students being considered for placement in special education. Prepares the sociological report as required for eligibility determination. Participates in eligibility committee discussions and deliberations. Serves as a consultant to school personnel and parents in interpreting problems. Assists with mobilizing school and community resources to maximize benefits of educational programs. Counsels with students and parents concerning living and learning environments. Serves as attendance officer and takes or recommends appropriate corrective action. Consults and plans with city agencies, such as court services, social services, juvenile protection, public and mental health. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, methods and techniques used for assessing sociological needs of individual students; thorough knowledge of federal and state mandates and local procedures and regulations relating to social and community support programs; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, teachers and administrators; ability to work with and through other school personnel, parents and community agencies. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in social work, or a related field and minimal experience working in an educational setting, counseling and working with children, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred. Licensed School Social worker. Preferred: Knowledge of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices and student integration programming.
Physical Requirements This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; no special vocal communication skills are required; no special hearing perception is required; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Special Requirements Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota. Salary Range DOE $49,672-$86,854
