Senior Mechanical Engineer

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. This role will be tasked with driving development of one or more critical sub-systems associated with the capital equipment portion of our surgical robot.Vicarious Surgical’s novel approach to surgery uses a combination of proprietary, human-like surgical robots and virtual reality to transport surgeons inside the patient when performing minimally invasive surgery. Our technology was granted Breakthrough Device Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which provides unique opportunities for our regulatory pathway. This is a terrific opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to join our company at a very exciting time and be a key member of a team that will bring our robotic solution to the market, offering a cost-effective path to improving patient outcomes and increasing the efficiency of surgical procedures for hospitals.ResponsibilitiesParticipate in all phases of product development, including user need and requirements definition, concept generation, detailed design, clinical simulation, manufacturing process development, assembly, integration, verification and validation testingUnderstand, analyze, and suggest new design improvements to existing technologyDevelop, conduct, and report on tests to validate your designsWork with internal machine shop and suppliers to produce prototypes and finished good partsDevelop comprehensive verification and validation protocolsBe a helpful, collaborative team memberSkills NeededProficiency with solid modeling required, Solidworks preferred, FEA experience nice to haveAbility to produce engineering drawings with robust dimensioning, GD&T and tolerance analysesComfort with and understanding of the interplay between various components of a complex, electromechanical systemStrong understanding of Design for Manufacturing, Design for Inspection and various assembly techniquesExperience with medical device product development / CFR 21 Part 820 design controls, IEC 60601 and the 510(k) submission process strongly desiredDevelopment of verification and validation plans to advance from prototype designs to finished productsPrior experience working on a Robotics Systems is a plusPrior direct work with external vendors and manufacturersAbility to work effectively in and be a resource for a multi-disciplinary team Ability to work independently and autonomously when necessaryAbility to effectively communicate ideas and give/receive constructive feedbackConfidence founded on sound engineering principles About YouBachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related fieldMinimum of 5 years’ experience in a mechanical or biomedical engineering rolePassion for excellence in mechanical design and analysisEnthusiasm, willingness to learn and a positive attitude!
