Senior Tax Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with strong public accounting experience and expertise in preparing complex individual and business tax returns. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of tax compliance, tax planning, entity taxation, and tax research. This hands-on position offers opportunities to develop client relationships, review tax returns, mentor junior staff, and take on greater responsibility within the tax practice.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

• Prepare complex individual income tax returns, including Form 1040.
• Prepare trust and fiduciary tax returns, including Form 1041.
• Prepare partnership tax returns, including Form 1065.
• Prepare corporate tax returns, including Form 1120.
• Prepare S corporation tax returns, including Form 1120 S.
• Analyze tax basis, Schedule K 1s, distributions, capital accounts, and entity transactions.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and apply relevant tax laws to client situations.
• Research complex tax issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Communicate directly with clients to gather information, resolve tax questions, and maintain strong professional relationships.
• Manage multiple tax engagements and meet filing deadlines.
• Take ownership of complex tax engagements and ensure accuracy and quality.
• Review tax returns prepared by junior staff as responsibilities expand.
• Delegate assignments, train junior team members, and support staff development.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of tax preparation, review, and client service processes.

Qualifications and Certifications

• 3 to 5 years of public accounting tax experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience preparing complex individual and business tax returns.
• Hands on experience with Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, and 1120 S.
• Strong knowledge of partnership and S corporation taxation, tax basis, Schedule K 1s, distributions, capital accounts, and entity transactions.
• Understanding of federal tax laws, tax research, compliance, and tax planning.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate tax preparation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines.
• Interest in developing tax return review, delegation, mentoring, and leadership skills.
• CPA license or progress toward CPA certification is an advantage, subject to firm requirements.
