Job Title: Maintenance Millwright

Job Description

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing industrial machinery used in unloading, loading, transferring, and storing cargo at a coal terminal. You will work with conveying equipment, pulleys, gearboxes, drag conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and various support systems, using advanced millwright, welding, and alignment skills to keep operations safe, efficient, and reliable.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair machinery related to the unloading, loading, transfer, and storage of cargo, including conveying equipment, pulleys, gearboxes, drag conveyors, structures, hydraulics, ship loaders, stacker reclaimers, and various support equipment.
• Perform welding and fabrication tasks using ARC and MIG processes to repair, modify, or fabricate components and structures as needed.
• Apply advanced knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment performance and safety.
• Conduct manual and laser alignment of machinery and rotating equipment to ensure optimal operation and minimize wear and downtime.
• Read and interpret specifications, service and parts literature, build prints, and engineering drawings to perform accurate installations and repairs.
• Use precision measuring devices in both metric and standard units, including gauges, displays, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, alignment tools, levels, and torque tools to verify tolerances and ensure quality work.
• Apply lubricants and follow maintenance best practices to extend equipment life and prevent unplanned failures.
• Perform mechanical troubleshooting on industrial machinery, identifying root causes of issues and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Operate and work with hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, chain hoists, presses, metal saws, cranes, and rigging equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Utilize knowledge of heavy equipment such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu, and Manitowoc machines to support maintenance and repair activities.
• Support friction crane operations, applying experience or quickly learning to work safely with this type of equipment.
• Communicate clearly in both verbal and written form to document work performed, share findings, and collaborate with team members and other departments.
• Respond to call-outs as assigned and support maintenance needs across all shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays when required.
• Follow safety procedures, site policies, and industry best practices while working in indoor and outdoor coal terminal environments.

Essential Skills

• Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in millwright duties within an industrial environment.
• Proficiency in welding and fabrication techniques, including ARC and MIG welding processes.
• Strong understanding and practical application of hydraulic and pneumatic principles and systems.
• Demonstrated ability to perform manual and laser alignment of machinery and rotating equipment.
• Ability to read and comprehend specifications, service and parts literature, build prints, and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency using precision measuring devices in metric and standard units, including gauges, displays, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, alignment tools, levels, and torque tools.
• Proficient mechanical aptitude related to structures, leverage, metallurgy, fasteners, rotating assemblies, gears, and material strength.
• High skill level with hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, chain hoists, presses, metal saws, cranes, and rigging equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting industrial machinery, including mechanical and fluid power systems.
• Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form to convey technical information and document work.
• Willingness and ability to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed, and to respond to call-outs as assigned.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) credential strongly preferred but not required.
• Experience with heavy equipment such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu, and Manitowoc machines.
• Friction crane experience is a plus.
• Experience with ship loaders, stacker reclaimers, and cargo handling systems in a terminal or similar industrial environment.
• Experience as a maintenance technician or industrial mechanic working with gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveying systems.
• Familiarity with mechanical troubleshooting techniques and maintenance best practices for industrial machinery.
• Comfort working with both manual and laser alignment tools and methods for rotating equipment.

Work Environment

The role is based in an indoor and outdoor coal terminal environment that supports pulley and conveyor systems for shipping and logistics operations. You will work around large-scale conveying equipment, ship loaders, stacker reclaimers, and associated machinery exposed to varying weather conditions. The position requires frequent use of hand tools, air tools, precision measuring instruments, chain hoists, presses, metal saws, cranes, rigging equipment, and heavy equipment such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu, and Manitowoc machines. Work schedules can include all shifts, with overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-outs as needed, reflecting a 24/7 operational setting where safe, reliable equipment performance is critical.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $44.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Houston,TX.
