Job Description – Calvary Lutheran Preschool Aide 

Calvary Lutheran Church, Bemidji, MN

(Part-time 15-30 hrs per week)

Job Overview: To assist the childcare teacher in matters of classroom support

Job Category: Full-time (9-month school year), hourly, preschool classroom staff

This person will report to: Preschool Director

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children
• Have a clear understanding of the Christian faith and possess the ability to share God’s story with children
• Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
• Be Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED certified or willing to be obtained within 30 days of employment
• Time management skills, self-motivation and good organizational skills

Expectations

• Comply with Minnesota Department of Human Services Rule 3 and other statutes
• Pass a background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services
• Have a positive attitude at work and be able to collaborate well with other staff members
• Have fun with kids and interact with them throughout the day at their level
• Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs in addition to their faith development and educational needs
• Utilize developmentally appropriate practice methods at all times
• Be a positive role model for all children and Calvary Lutheran staff
• Maintain student/family confidentiality at all times
• Attend workshops/conferences as negotiated with the director to maintain training hours as required by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to continue employment as an aide
• Be able to kneel, bend, squat, and sit on the floor to meet children’s needs
• Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
• Obtain basic computer skills

Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist childcare teacher with various classroom preparations
• Assist with after school programming
• Effectively communicate with other preschool staff
• Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development
• Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, hand washing, etc.)
• Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times
• Establish a professional level of rapport with each family
• Help maintain an environment that is clean, organized and safe for all children
• Attend preschool staff meetings and staff development as scheduled by the director
• Attend all-staff meetings as scheduled by the Senior Pastor
• Attend and engage in family events that may be outside the regular classroom day
• Maintain a professional self-image and project the mission and vision of Calvary Lutheran Preschool and Calvary Lutheran church at all times
