Overview
The Mid-Utica Neighborhood Preservation Corporation (MUNPC), historically known as the Leisure Time Activity Center and commonly referred to as Mid-Utica, is a historically Black-founded organization that works to build and preserve our community, culture, and history while ending blight in the Greater Utica area since 1979. We currently operate the Bessie Hicks Senior Program - adult social programming, physical fitness, and bible studies- Utica’s annual Juneteenth celebration, and a series of youth programs under Project RISE out of the Empowerment Center. In the Cornhill Leisure Time Activity Center, we historically provided community gathering/event space, early childhood education, and youth day care services. As a critical long-term partner of the transformative Cornhill Revitalization Initiative, we are currently in year four of the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc.’s award to MUNPC for a 5-year, $300,000 grant for capacity building, which includes funding for our next Executive Director.
Job SummaryThe Executive Director is responsible for continuing to develop MUNPC as a dynamic community development organization that can champion the voice and needs of Utica’s most marginalized community members. The Cornhill Revitalization Initiative includes the management of the multi-site Cornhill impact centers, one of which will be constructed at the original site of the Leisure Time Activity Center. The Executive Director’s ongoing primary responsibilities will include strategic planning and board development, cross-sector collaborations, fundraising, and staff management for operations and programming. The Executive Director will evaluate and, as necessary, redefine aspects of the role to effectively lead within the organization, the community, and the Cornhill Revitalization Initiative.
Core Responsibilities● Finance
- Identify, apply, manage, and execute local, state, and national grants for programmatic funding.
- Develop and manage the annual budget, and ensure fiscal responsibility, including banking operations, financial projections, and reporting
- Attract funding through various sources, including, but not limited to, donor development, fundraising campaigns, and sponsorships
- Responsible for regulatory oversight and legal compliance, including the filing of all required tax documents and financial statements
● Programming and Community Engagement
- Support, promote, and expand current MUNPC programming and membership
- Attend Utica and surrounding community events to promote MUNPC and advance strategic goals
- Monitor effectiveness of programming and participation rates and provide quarterly reports to board leadership and stakeholders
- Support creation of revenue and non-revenue generating programming driven by community needs assessment results and continuous community feedback
● Leadership and Strategic Planning
- Create a strategic plan and framework to meet immediate and future goals of managing the multi-site Cornhill Impact Centers.
- Build project awareness and partnerships with key community stakeholders
- Operationalize the board’s mission and vision statements
● Governance
- Continue governance best practices, policies, and internal processes through effective board and committee structures
- Facilitate and deliver meaningful board and committee meetings and development regularly
- Review current business relationships and policies to develop accounting, legal, human resources, risk management and ordinary business operations needs that comply with federal and state law
- Oversee and manage legal activities, letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements
Supervisory Responsibilities: This role supervises three contractor employee roles and is responsible for regular meetings, reporting, and assessment of employee development and compliance with MUNPC’s mission, vision, and values in adherence to their job descriptions. .
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, in business administration, urban planning, finance, real estate management, nonprofit management, African-American studies, multiculturalism, or related interdisciplinary studies considered
● Demonstrated knowledge of Black and African-American history, institutional barriers, and culture required
● Three to five years’ experience in executive-level operations and/or business management is required
● Three to five years of demonstrated working experience in addressing the past and current institutional barriers that affect the quality of life for all marginalized communities of color preferred
● Three to five years’ experience in community engagement, event management, community development, and fundraising preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and organizational skills
● Able to handle multiple projects, priorities, and tasks simultaneously
● Proven cultural competency, including socially and trauma-informed skillful collaboration
● Excellent interpersonal and communication ability, including writing and making effective presentations to multi-racial and multi-generational audiences
● Proficient use of technology systems including Google Suite, Microsoft Office products, video conferencing meeting platforms, and other business systems
● Demonstrated desire for excellence, accuracy, and details
