Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, the Certified Nurse Assistant performs direct and indirect designated resident care as defined by the scope of practice. The Certified Nurse Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must understand the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status is essential. The Certified Nurse Assistant needs to interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Care must be provided for adult and geriatric patient groups. Resident's Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care. This includes hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, elimination needs, turning and positioning, and skin care. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The resident's environment and safety must be maintained in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes answering call lights promptly, maintaining cleanliness of the unit, and monitoring equipment. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The resident's nutritional needs will be met as outlined in the plan of care. This includes meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, and feeding. The resident's preferences and choices shall be honored, with documentation completed per protocol. The resident's rehabilitative needs are met as outlined in the plan of care. This includes range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, and proper body alignment. Documentation must be completed per protocol. The Certified Nurse Assistant will report resident rights, refusals, and concerns to the supervising nurse in a timely manner. Changes in resident physical, emotional, and psychosocial status will be identified and reported promptly. Tasks may involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
