REGISTERED NURSE SPECIALIST

Work You Will Do The primary function of the Registered Nurse Specialist is to conduct inspections utilizing an established survey process. Evaluate health care facilities for state licensure and federal certification requirements for participation under Medicare/Medicaid. Document findings and complete written reports of survey findings. Perform surveys as an individual, team member, or team leader as required. Complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment, as required by applicable legislation. Work during weekends, holidays, and emergency situations, including traveling to other counties or staffing locations. Respond to disaster or threat of disaster situations, man‑made or natural, as part of mission‑essential duties. Earn at least 50 percent of required continuing education credits in geriatric care for nursing home survey teams. Proficient use of computer equipment and software programs such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, and smart‑phone technology. Be available before and after normal work hours, including weekends and holidays; extensive travel and overnight stays may be required. Maintain a good attendance record; absenteeism is not acceptable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of state licensure and federal certification survey requirements. Knowledge of methods for compiling, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to develop and implement various monitoring programs and techniques. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to prioritize workload and plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively, including oral communication and listening, interview procedures, team dynamics, and performance evaluations. Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve, and manipulate data. Ability to travel with or without accommodations. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications Requirements Licensure as a registered professional nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 and two years of professional nursing experience are required. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 64B9‑3. Background Screening Successful completion of a State and National criminal history check is a condition of employment before beginning employment. Background screening includes fingerprinting for State and Federal criminal records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and may include local criminal history checks through local law enforcement agencies.
