POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader. He/she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. He/she evaluates patient’s physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family. The Registered Nurse is responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team. He/she functions as a mentor to their team, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures. He/she maintains a professional profile, promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Uses the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care. Collects data relevant to patient’s condition and reports critical values to physician in a timely manner. Assesses appropriate lab and diagnostic data. Documents findings of physical assessment and is able to identify abnormal findings. Develops plan of care based on patient need. Advocates on behalf of the patient and their family. Performs interventions according to patient need and hospital policy. Evaluates patient outcomes in relation to goals. Adheres to all safety guidelines and exercises the utmost care when interacting with patients. Demonstrates a professional demeanor in interactions with patient, family, peers, and staff, and maintains open communication with nursing management. Other duties as deemed appropriate by management. Will Float to the following units: North 2, North 3, ICU/CCU or ED.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Current Licensure to practice in New York State. Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support ("ACLS") certification from the American Heart Association. Current TNCC (Obtain within 3 months of hire). PALS certification within 90 days from hire. Standing/walking 90% of the time. Ability to lift patients with or without assistance. Ability to push heavy objects.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Minimum of 2 years acute care nursing experience. NIHSS Certification. Moderate Sedation Certification. Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and related facilities. Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
