Job Title: Dean of Students
Location: Weldon City Schools, North Carolina
Reports To: Principal / Assistant Principal
Work Year: 10-12 Months (Based on Assignment)

Position Summary


The Dean of Students is responsible for promoting a positive, structured, and supportive school climate that maximizes student engagement and success. This role focuses on student behavior, attendance, and social-emotional development through proactive systems, restorative practices, and strong relationships with students, staff, and families. The Dean of Students works closely with school leadership to ensure a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment aligned with the mission of Weldon City Schools.

Key Responsibilities

Student Culture & Climate

• Develop and maintain a positive school culture grounded in respect, accountability, and inclusivity
• Lead initiatives that promote student engagement, leadership, and school pride
• Model and reinforce school-wide expectations for behavior and character

Student Discipline & Restorative Practices

• Implement and manage student discipline systems in accordance with district policies and the NC Student Code of Conduct
• Utilize restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies to address behavioral issues
• Analyze discipline data to identify trends and implement targeted interventions

Attendance & Student Engagement

• Monitor and address student attendance, tardiness, and truancy concerns
• Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and families to improve attendance outcomes
• Design and implement incentives and supports to increase student engagement

Student Support & Wellness

• Work collaboratively with MTSS teams to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs
• Coordinate interventions and support plans for students requiring additional assistance
• Serve as a mentor and advocate for students

Family & Community Engagement

• Communicate effectively with families regarding student behavior, attendance, and progress
• Facilitate conferences and meetings to support student success
• Partner with community agencies to provide resources for students and families

Staff Collaboration & Support

• Support teachers with classroom management strategies and student interventions
• Provide professional development related to behavior management and restorative practices
• Collaborate with administrators on school improvement initiatives

Safety & Supervision

• Ensure a safe and orderly school environment during all school activities
• Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, transitions, and events
• Support implementation of school safety procedures and crisis response protocols

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
• North Carolina teacher licensure in a relevant area required
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students in an educational setting
• Strong knowledge of student behavior management and intervention strategies

Preferred:

• Master's degree in Education, School Administration, Counseling, or related field
• North Carolina School Administrator License (or eligibility) preferred.
• Experience with restorative practices, PBIS, or MTSS frameworks
• Experience in urban or culturally diverse school settings

Compensation


Salary and benefits are aligned with Weldon City Schools' compensation structure and based on qualifications and experience.
