Position Summary
The Dean of Students is responsible for promoting a positive, structured, and supportive school climate that maximizes student engagement and success. This role focuses on student behavior, attendance, and social-emotional development through proactive systems, restorative practices, and strong relationships with students, staff, and families. The Dean of Students works closely with school leadership to ensure a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment aligned with the mission of Weldon City Schools.

Position Summary
The Dean of Students is responsible for promoting a positive, structured, and supportive school climate that maximizes student engagement and success. This role focuses on student behavior, attendance, and social-emotional development through proactive systems, restorative practices, and strong relationships with students, staff, and families. The Dean of Students works closely with school leadership to ensure a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment aligned with the mission of Weldon City Schools.
Key Responsibilities Student Culture & Climate
- Develop and maintain a positive school culture grounded in respect, accountability, and inclusivity
- Lead initiatives that promote student engagement, leadership, and school pride
- Model and reinforce school-wide expectations for behavior and character
- Implement and manage student discipline systems in accordance with district policies and the NC Student Code of Conduct
- Utilize restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies to address behavioral issues
- Analyze discipline data to identify trends and implement targeted interventions
- Monitor and address student attendance, tardiness, and truancy concerns
- Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and families to improve attendance outcomes
- Design and implement incentives and supports to increase student engagement
- Work collaboratively with MTSS teams to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs
- Coordinate interventions and support plans for students requiring additional assistance
- Serve as a mentor and advocate for students
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student behavior, attendance, and progress
- Facilitate conferences and meetings to support student success
- Partner with community agencies to provide resources for students and families
- Support teachers with classroom management strategies and student interventions
- Provide professional development related to behavior management and restorative practices
- Collaborate with administrators on school improvement initiatives
- Ensure a safe and orderly school environment during all school activities
- Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, transitions, and events
- Support implementation of school safety procedures and crisis response protocols
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- North Carolina teacher licensure in a relevant area required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students in an educational setting
- Strong knowledge of student behavior management and intervention strategies
- Master's degree in Education, School Administration, Counseling, or related field
- North Carolina School Administrator License (or eligibility) preferred.
- Experience with restorative practices, PBIS, or MTSS frameworks
- Experience in urban or culturally diverse school settings
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Effective communication and conflict resolution
- Cultural responsiveness and equity-focused mindset
- Data-informed decision-making
- Organization, consistency, and attention to detail
- Frequent interaction with students in various school settings
- Ability to de-escalate conflicts and manage high-stress situations
- Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities for school events
