Senior Estimator/Project Manager

Job Description

An Senior Estimator/Project Manager oversees the entire building process for assigned projects from start to finish. They collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, upper management, and other project team members to determine deliverables and goals, produce a budget that aligns with the client's expectations, organize and schedule construction, obtain permits, and negotiate vendor contracts to begin the build. Once the project is underway, they manage the workforce and set expectations by enforcing site safety regulations and adherence to production goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Complete detailed estimates and prepare proposals in advance of bid due dates.

• Participate in pre- and post-job reviews.

• Read blueprints and technical documents to prepare estimates.

• Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, contractors, and sales teams to prepare estimates and bids.

• Calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates for factors affecting costs, including production time, materials, and labor.

• Maintain records of estimated and actual project costs.

• Perform field takeoffs and site evaluations for estimate preparation.

• Solicit vendor and subcontractor bids for projects.

• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and estimate requirements.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date job cost information for future projects.

• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to develop the most cost-effective project scopes.

• Oversee and direct construction projects from conception through completion.

• Interview and evaluate potential employees and subcontractors.

• Establish a communication schedule to keep stakeholders and internal teams informed of project progress.

• Generate profit projections, estimate costs, and schedule project deliverables.

• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and safety regulations.

• Review work quality with the project team on a regular basis to ensure it meets project standards.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Building Construction, a math-related field, or equivalent work experience (strongly preferred).

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in an estimating or project management role within the drywall, acoustical, flooring, or metal framing industry (required).

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• In-depth knowledge of the drywall and metal framing construction industry and the complete building process, including building codes, blueprint reading, permitting, construction equipment, material resources, construction methods, and project management principles.

• Experience using construction estimating and project management software.

• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• Strong mathematical, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
