Science Teacher - Middle Division (Grades 6-8)

Start Date August 24, 2026 Position Overview The Middle Division Science Department at Horace Mann School seeks a Middle School Science Teacher to join a collaborative team. The teacher will deliver a cohesive and rigorous academic program for grades 6–8, teaching a variety of science subjects—including astronomy, life science, geology, chemistry, physics, and physical science—while enhancing lesson plans, laboratory experiences, and assessments. Responsibilities Teach core science courses and develop engaging, hands‑on laboratory lessons. Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively. Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback. Develop a year‑long 8th‑grade elective course focused on chemistry and physics. Stay current with developments in science education to continually strengthen practice. Serve as an advisor and the primary point‑person for students and families. Attend to the social‑emotional needs of middle‑school students. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience required. Experience working with a diverse community of learners. Highly motivated, passionate, and eager to make a difference in students’ lives. Middle‑school teaching experience and a Master’s degree are desirable. Demonstrated ability to support students’ social‑emotional development.
