Job Description\n American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Rapid City, South Dakota.Job Description & Requirements\n \n Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit\n Discipline: RN\n Start Date: 12/21/2026\n Duration: 13 weeks\n 36 hours per week\n Shift: 12 hours, nights\n Employment Type: Travel\n \n Assignment Overview\n \n Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs\n Hours: 36 hrs/wk\n Start Date: Dec 21, 2026\n Length: 13 weeks\n Openings: 1\n Description\n American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring an active SD or compact RN license and at least 1 year of PCU or telemetry experience.Details\n \n Work in a 56-bed Progressive Care Unit within a hospital setting\n Care for adult patients with diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM, DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens\n PCU/Tele patient ratio of 1:4 (Days & Nights); Med/Surg ratio of 1:5 (Days & Nights)\n 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week\n Weekend rotation required (every other or 50% of weekends per 4-week schedule, Friday-Sunday)\n Not scheduled for on-call hours, though may be placed on-call for low census situations\n Uses Epic (preferred), Alaris, and Omnicell\n May float to Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (based on experience), or Observation units within scope of practice\n Floating occurs in rotation with other travelers\n PCU RNs may float to ICU; ICU RNs may float to ED\n Requirements\n \n Active RN license (SD or compact) required\n Current BLS and ACLS certifications required\n Minimum 1 year of PCU or telemetry RN experience required\n Completion of an approved nursing education program required\n Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required\n Experience with IV starts, blood product administration, and CIWA protocols required\n Skilled in drain/tube management, catheter insertion and management, and continuous bladder irrigation\n Chest tube maintenance experience required\n Insulin drip management experience required (DKA and non-DKA)\n Cardiac and vasoactive drip titration experience preferred (including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Levophed)\n Strong clinical judgment, physical assessment skills, and professional bedside manner required\n Comfortable working in a team nursing model alongside LPNs with shared patient care responsibilities\n Additional Information\n \n Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible for this position\n Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler\n First-time travelers welcome to apply if they have more than 2 years of experience\n Unit support includes 24/7 charge nurses, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, respiratory therapy, and in-house hospitalists\n Resource/Flex RN available to assist with admissions, discharges, transfers, and tasks as staffing allows\n 24/7 centralized telemetry monitoring team assists with alarm notifications\n Violent incident response team available for support\n Orientation includes 2 days of in-class/online education plus two 12-hour precepted shifts\n Attendance at mandatory huddles required prior to shift start at 0625 and 1825 in the 7th floor conference room\n Holiday coverage required every other holiday during the contract period\n Up to 7 days of time off approved, though contract extension required if unable to work a full week\n No time off approved during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)\n May be expected to precept nursing students\n Monthly audits conducted for pre/post pain scoring compliance, requiring 90% compliance\n Navy blue scrubs required for RNs\n Free parking available\n Facility is noted as very traveler-friendly with strong renewal rates\n \n \n American Traveler Job ID #P-747474.
