Sr. Specialist, Engineering

Senior Specialist in Bioprocess Engineering at Merck's Animal Health Center of Excellence leading vaccine technology transfers and manufacturing processes. This individual contributor role focuses on regional knowledge management, process implementation, technical risk mitigation, and cross-functional project leadership without direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage regional knowledge implementation across sites including transfer packages, playbooks, and best practices
• Lead end-to-end regional vaccine technology transfers ensuring technical readiness and successful site implementation
• Identify and mitigate technical risks through structured assessments and data-driven action plans prior to transfers
• Lead cross-functional technical projects and workstreams to enable transfer success and improve process performance
• Train, mentor new hires, and provide expert technical support to manufacturing and quality partners post-transfer

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or related life science/engineering field; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years biopharmaceutical or vaccine manufacturing, process development, or technology transfer experience
• Proven track record leading technology transfers or major technical projects as individual contributor
• Strong knowledge of upstream, downstream, fill-finish, and/or lyophilization processes in vaccine or biopharma manufacturing
• Experience in regulated vaccine/biopharma environments with process characterization, scale-up/scale-down, and robustness expertise
• Technical risk assessment and data analysis capabilities with strong problem-solving and cross-functional influence skills
• Familiarity with USDA regulatory expectations preferred
