Through expertise in mission engineering, systems integration, systems engineering, architecture, modeling and simulation, operational analysis, and artificial intelligence, MITRE provides independent technical leadership supporting advanced operational capabilities.The ADI Department is seeking a Task Lead for the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) project for the DAF Integrated Fires Command and Control (DIFC2) task. The DIFC2 Task Lead will serve as the primary interface between the sponsor, stakeholders, and technical teams. This leader will oversee the MITRE team and drive the integration of cutting-edge solutions into modern C2 and Battle Management architectures. This critical mission support role demands an active TS/SCI clearance, strong relational leadership, an understanding of intelligence community operations and software development.Key FunctionsTeam Management:Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and task execution, ensuring all deliverables are met on time and within budget.Mentor, guide, and task-manage a multidisciplinary team of software engineers, system architects, and subject matter experts.Proactively identify program risks, technical bottlenecks, and operational limitations, formulating swift mitigation strategies to keep the mission on track.Mission & Technical Leadership:Lead and synchronize technical tasks supporting the design, development, and integration of software-intensive systems for the ABMS DIFC2 portfolio.Translate complex operational requirements from the warfighter into actionable software development plans and engineering tasks.Lead domain expertise in Command and Control (C2) and Battle Management systems to guide modern cloud, data, and software architecture decisions.Establish synergies among external stakeholders, such as other ABMS branches/product lines, Department of War (DoW) services, agencies, and Command, Control, Communication, and Battle Management (C3BM) programs to develop a comprehensive DIFC2 system-of-systems architectureSponsor & Stakeholder Engagement:Serve as the primary point of contact for the government sponsor, delivering regular progress briefings, managing expectations, and aligning project execution with strategic mission goals.Build, maintain, and leverage trusted relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders, including military service branches, joint organizations, civil servants, and industrial contractors.Facilitate collaborative working groups and technical exchange meetings to resolve complex integration challenges and drive consensus.Expected OutcomesA successful candidate will:Deliver Mission Impact: Lead the DIFC2 team in delivering timely, high-quality technical solutions and recommendations that advance integrated C2 and Battle Management capabilities.Drive Technical Integration: Establish and advance a coherent system-of-systems approach that integrates software, data, sensors, weapons, and C2 capabilities across ABMS, C3BM, Joint, Service, and IC environments.Lead High-Performing Teams: Set clear priorities, manage resources and risks, mentor team members, and ensure commitments are delivered on schedule and within budget.Build Trusted Sponsor Relationships: Serve as a trusted technical advisor to the sponsor by anticipating needs, communicating clearly, and providing objective, actionable recommendations.Align Stakeholders: Build consensus across government, military, IC, MITRE, and industry partners to resolve integration challenges and improve interoperability.Accelerate Capability Delivery: Apply modern systems and software engineering, DevSecOps, cloud, data, and agile acquisition practices to accelerate the transition of operational needs into integrated, mission-relevant capabilities.Basic QualificationsTypically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Operational C2 Background: Experience working within Command and Control (C2) environments, with a familiarity with air, space, or multi-domain operations.Software & Digital Infrastructure: Deep familiarity with modern software development lifecycles (DevSecOps), cloud environments, federated architectures, and data-sharing interfaces.Familiarity with agile acquisition, acquisition transformation, and software acquisition pathwayMust be willing and able to travel approximately 25% of the time to support sponsor engagements, test events, and multi-site stakeholder collaboration.Must have an active Top Secret/SCI U.S Government issued Security Clearance. Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.Preferred QualificationsIntelligence Community (IC) Familiarity: Experience collaborating with or supporting the IC, understanding their unique data standards, security postures, and operational workflows.Battle Management Systems: Background in Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) platforms, weapon systems, or sensor-to-shooter integration.MITRE Management Experience in project leadership, task management, or government-facing advisory roles is highly desirable.Experience with modeling & simulation tools (e.g., AFSim, Cameo, MBSE).Primary Location: Preferably co-located with team elements in Bedford, MA, though candidates based in McLean, VA or Joint Base Anacostia Bolling will also be considered.This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):Top Secret/SCIThis requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s):Top Secret/SCISalary compensation range and midpoint:$162,400 - $203,000 - $243,600 AnnualWork Location Type:HybridIt is unlawful in Massachusetts to require or administer a lie detector test as a condition of employment or continued employment.
