About the Position

Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PACU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: 0 License: Current Registered Nursing Licensure Certifications: Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire, Advanced Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must-Have: Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients. Description: This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. In the role of care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers via delegation, coordination, supervision, and validation/evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services. They must possess the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. Essential functions include performing assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status. They will implement care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilizing adherence to pre-determined procedures, policies, and care plans. The RN will identify patient and significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implement patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans. Documentation in patients' charts will be required, following policy and in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Demonstration of awareness and sensitivity to patient and family rights is mandatory. Delegation of patient care activities appropriately is expected, as is effective organization and priority setting utilizing sound critical thinking. The RN may function as a Charge Nurse, which includes delegation of patient assignments, assisting with admits, discharges, and transfers, and coordinating staff coverage for breaks. Continuous professional growth and development will be expected through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise. Awareness and adherence to safety requirements are crucial. Compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements, must be ensured. The RN is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, ensuring personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform job functions effectively. Essential physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity, physical strength, and keen mental faculties are necessary to perform assessment and decision-making skills. Emotional stability is required for dealing with high stress levels associated with caring for acute patients and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with healthcare professionals, patients, and the public is essential. Additional responsibilities may be required by management to meet organizational standards.
