Work Schedule - Police dept schedule; rotating schedule Sensitive Position - Yes Job Description - General Description:This position is responsible for providing and supervising police and other assigned staff that secure and protect NVCC campuses, off-site centers, and property through crime prevention activities.NOVA Officers have full authority to enforce State laws and regulations within the Commonwealth of Virginia.TheNOVA Police Department is established as a College-wide entity with the responsibility to maintain the safety and security of all employees, students and visitors, and property owned or controlled by the College. As such, all police department employees are subject to short-term and long-term reassignments that may include different locations, rotating schedules and duties dependent on the needs of the Department and/or staff professional development. Duties and Tasks:This position oversees all police aspects at the campus level to include oversight and supervision of staff.Ensure security for College and personal property at the College through crime prevention activities and patrol.Ensure thorough investigation of all reported and suspected criminal activity.Ensure safety of the community through the enforcement of State laws and College regulations. This is accomplished by patrol efforts, by possible shift rotation, by interacting with the public in a fair and impartial manner regardless of situation, while on-duty atNVCCcampuses and centers.Activities include, but are not limited to patrolling, investigating (reported and suspected) criminal activity, and enforcing State traffic and parking laws.Make regular requests from employees for updates and input on college decisions and share feedback with supervisors for inclusion in theNOVABrief.Must be able to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check. Special Assignments - May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
