Lead Certified Medical Assistant (Multi-Specialty Surgical Clinic) - 40 hours, days

Position Overview Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, the Medical Assistant II (MA II) provides clinical care and performs clerical duties to support office/clinic functions. The position may include a signing bonus upon eligibility confirmation by the Recruitment Team. Major Responsibilities Distributes and monitors the flow of work for an assigned group of employees. Provides training and technical assistance to employees within the assigned work area. Assists manager in ensuring that assigned employees have appropriate resources, materials, and methods. Provides recommendations to manager for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel. Provides input to manager on assigned staff for annual performance evaluations. Leads process improvement projects utilizing Lean Yellow Belt concepts. Escorts patients to examination rooms and records vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc. Collects and documents patient health status, history, and monitors patient progress following standard procedures. Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and Point of Care (POC) tests according to clinic/office standards. Prepares, documents, and administers non‑intravenous injections as directed or required within scope of practice. Assists in routine physical examinations or clinical procedures. Reviews laboratory results and ensures abnormal results are immediately brought to the attention of physicians and others as appropriate. Communicates observations and changes to the appropriate licensed clinician promptly and clearly. Sets up/prepares rooms based on patient care requirements. Assists in the setup, maintenance, disassembly, and cleaning of patient equipment. Ensures instruments and scopes are cleaned, sterilized, and repackaged per clinic protocol. Operates sterilization/cleaning systems as necessary. Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients as directed following policy standards. Utilizes proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work‑related activities. Follows procedures for arriving patients and scheduling appointments. Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures. Maintains assigned office and/or clinical supplies, ensuring accurate inventory, rotating stock, and initiating requisitions for resupply or special items. Maintains logs, organizes patient care charts, and/or maintains medical records; may enter data or retrieve medical information from the electronic medical record. Processes prescription and refills as directed per procedures. Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, scheduling appointments, generating letters and forms, handling phone calls, and documenting in patient records as required. Collaborates with insurers to verify coverage, eligibility, and prior authorizations for procedures, medications, and tests; follows guidelines to obtain pre‑authorization, pre‑certification, and clinician referrals prior to visits. Collects co‑payments from patients for visits and maintains records. All responsibilities are essential job functions. Position Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association, obtained within 3 months of hire. Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.). Yellow Belt certification within 1 year from date of hire/transfer. Previous experience working in a medical physician office or ambulatory care clinic setting in a hospital. Knowledge of medical terminology and competency with computer systems. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English clearly and concisely. Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills. Problem‑solving abilities for routine situations and comfort seeking assistance when needed. Ability to remain calm under stress or in emergency situations. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs, building positive rapport. Preferred: 3 years of medical assistant experience in a medical physician office or ambulatory clinic setting.
