Food Access Community Outreach & Marketing Ambassador The FoodSHARE Program was founded by a single parent who recognized the need for accessible food and the urgent issue of food waste in our community. Inspired by a vision of low-waste living and food justice, FoodSHARE connects unused food resources to families while addressing food waste's environmental impact. Outreach Ambassadors with Porchlight Community Services bring FoodSHARE's story to life across San Diego. Volunteers will attend community events, set up information tables, and have real conversations with neighbors about food access, food rescue, and our sustainability programs. If you love connecting with people and making a tangible difference, this role was made for you. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Key Responsibilities: Represent FoodSHARE at community events, farmers' markets, fairs, and networking functions across San Diego. Set up and staff outreach tables with printed materials, signage, and display items. Engage the public in approachable, informative conversations about what FoodSHARE does. Share details about Porchlight's client-choice FoodSHARE shopping program and guide potential new clients on how to access services. Encourage community members to volunteer and join Porchlight's growing team. Distribute flyers and resources about programs, sustainability efforts, and community swap events. Educate the public on food rescue, zero-waste living, and reducing food waste in San Diego. Support fundraising awareness by sharing giving opportunities and upcoming campaigns. Research and identify upcoming community events and networking opportunities to recommend to staff. Provide written event recaps and contact information to the pantry team after each outing. Required Skills/Experience: Outgoing, personable, and confident in communicating with diverse audiences. Passionate about food access, food justice, sustainability, or community service. Organized and able to independently set up and break down a display table. Reliable transportation to events throughout the San Diego area. Desired Skills/Experience: Bilingual (Spanish/English) a strong plus but not required. Previous community outreach, tabling, or event experience a plus (not required). Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per month (2-4 events). Serve for at least 3-6 months. Onboarding Process: Please click the "Express Interest" button to have a Porchlight staff member reach out to you.
