Emergency Department Tech

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician provides direct care to patients in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities Performs urgent and emergent care procedures including EKGs, wound care, vital sign monitoring, IV initiation, phlebotomy procedures and codes. Monitors patient condition and performs data collection. Communicates findings and patient condition to primary Registered Nurse (RN). Applies, modifies and removes casts, traction appliances, and soft goods under written orders of attending physician. Assists physicians with these procedures as needed. Maintains accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Orders and stocks unit supplies of all types needed for patient care and locating shared equipment within the Hospital. Assists with the mobilization, ambulation and transport of patients. Organizational Responsibilities Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. Licensure / Certification / Registration Required Credential(s): BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Preferred Credential(s): Emergency Medical Tech credentialed from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). One or more of the following: certified nursing assistant, certified medical assistant, or certified EMT paramedic preferred.
