Job Title: CNC Machinist Job Description
This role offers hands-on training in all aspects of CNC machining, including milling, turning, and close tolerance manufacturing. You will learn to use CAD software, operate standard production equipment, and work under the guidance of a senior machinist to produce high-quality parts. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, especially when reviewing drawings and taking precise measurements before and during production.
Responsibilities- Operate standard CNC and related equipment to produce production parts according to specifications.
- Review specification charts, samples, blueprints, and drawings for parts to be manufactured to ensure accuracy before starting work.
- Follow prescribed plans of action and pre-set programs to manufacture parts in line with engineering and quality requirements.
- Select and apply the correct machine programming for each part under manufacture.
- Measure and mark raw materials accurately to prepare them for cutting, shaping, and machining operations.
- Set up machines and equipment required to complete each step of the manufacturing plan, including tooling, fixtures, and workholding.
- Monitor the production process continuously and intervene promptly when problems, defects, or irregularities arise.
- Inspect finished parts for flaws, defects, and dimensional accuracy, using appropriate inspection tools and techniques.
- Perform basic repair, alignment, fastening, and assembly tasks related to aerostat and other product components as needed.
- Assist with testing of parts and assemblies to verify performance and quality standards.
- Maintain machine shop equipment by performing routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and reporting issues for repair.
- Follow all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and help maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support manufacturing and production goals.
- Experience operating CNC machinery or strong mechanical aptitude with willingness to be trained in CNC milling, turning, and close tolerance manufacturing.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, specification charts, and work order instructions.
- Strong attention to minute details, especially when taking measurements and verifying dimensions before beginning work.
- Ability to take precise measurements for cutting and shaping tasks and to apply appropriate machine settings.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use word processing software.
- Experience operating a forklift or aerial lift is required; experience with both is preferred.
- Ability to follow prescribed manufacturing plans and machine programs accurately.
- Capability to inspect parts for defects, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality.
- Physical ability to work in a production and machine shop environment, including standing for extended periods and handling materials safely.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in or prior exposure to CAD software, with willingness to train in CAD for machining applications.
- Experience with inspection processes, including using measurement tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
- Background in manufacturing, production, or mechanical assembly environments.
- Experience with repair, alignment, fastening, and testing of mechanical or aerostat assemblies.
- Comfort working with tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in a machine shop or production setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly when production issues arise.
- Ability to work effectively under the guidance of a senior machinist and as part of a broader production team.

Work EnvironmentThis position is based in a non–temperature-controlled production and machine shop environment, where conditions may vary with the weather. The shift starts at 7:00 AM, and you will work around machinery, tools, and materials typical of a manufacturing setting. Required personal protective equipment includes hard hats and knee pads, and tools and safety equipment are provided. Work attire requires closed-toed shoes to ensure safety while on the shop floor.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
