Job Description

The Quality Control Inspector ensures that electrical panels and enclosures meet strict quality standards throughout the production process. This role involves inspecting products as they move through departments such as steel, paint, mounting, wiring, enclosures, and shipping, and verifying that all work aligns with customer specifications and internal quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Implement quality assurance policies and procedures consistently across the production process.
• Perform routine inspections and quality tests on panels and enclosures at various stages of production.
• Inspect products to ensure they meet established quality standards and match the customer’s bill of materials.
• Verify that wiring, components, and assemblies conform to blueprints and exploded-view drawings.
• Document deficiencies and errors in products accurately and follow up to confirm that corrective actions are completed.
• Conduct functional testing of electrical products to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications.
• Use a manual hydraulic pallet jack safely to move materials and products as needed.
• Apply working knowledge of tools, methods, and concepts of quality assurance in daily tasks.
• Communicate inspection results and quality issues clearly to production and office teams, both verbally and in writing.
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail while working in a production- and performance-based environment.
• Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working around typical manufacturing hazards.
• Meet attendance and punctuality expectations in accordance with established policies.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and exploded-view drawings.
• Working knowledge of tools, methods, and concepts of quality assurance.
• Experience with quality control and quality inspection in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to understand and work with wiring and electrical or electronic components.
• Capability to perform functional testing of electrical products.
• Strong common-sense decision-making skills in a fast-paced production setting.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform frequent standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and handling.
• Ability to continuously use speaking, hearing, and visual skills, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs. independently and occasionally 50–100 lbs. with assistance.
• Comfort working in an environment with loud noises, drilling, cutting, banging, and typical manufacturing production hazards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• College degree preferred.
• Experience reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and drawings.
• Experience in electrical, electronic, or electrician-related work is beneficial.
• Prior experience in a quality assurance or quality control department is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently while staying focused and productive in a performance-based environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy when documenting defects and verifying corrections.
• Comfort working collaboratively with a team of quality inspectors within a larger facility.

Work Environment

This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 60-minute unpaid lunch. Overtime is available and may reach up to 10 hours per week once fully trained. The facility is very clean, bright, and climate controlled, providing a comfortable and modern workspace. Each inspector has their own work area, positioned close to others but with a high degree of independence, reflecting a production- and performance-based culture where staying on task is essential. Approximately 400 people work in the facility, with about 16 individuals in the quality inspection team. The environment includes typical manufacturing noises and hazards such as drilling, cutting, and banging, and requires consistent use of safety practices. Dress expectations include jeans, t-shirts, and closed-toe shoes. Personal protective equipment includes safety glasses provided by the employer and closed-toe shoes worn by the employee. The attendance policy allows a 5-minute clock-in cushion; clocking in outside this window counts as an incident. Employees may have up to five incidents within 60 days; more than five can result in termination. A doctor’s note submitted within two days can excuse an absence in line with policy.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
